Today, Syria and Iraq have turned into safe havens for terrorists, therefore Tehran and Baghdad should enhance their cooperation to confront and wipe out this threat, said Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Khaled al-Obeidi in Tehran on Tuesday.

“The Takfiri movement has today attacked the resistance front against the West’s hegemony and Zionism. In other words, Takfiri terrorists are mercenaries who seek to serve the interests of the US and the security of Israel,” the Iranian military official added.

For his part, Obeidi gave a positive assessment of his visit to Iran, stating that the government in Baghdad aims to boost ties with all neighboring countries

We believe that security in Iraq affects security in the region and neighboring countries, he stated.

The Takfiri militants that control large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria, have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations and crucifixions, against all communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.

Iran has repeatedly stressed that it will not interfere militarily in Iraq and Syria, but the Islamic Republic continues to provide support to both countries against the ISIL in the form of defense consultancy and humanitarian aid.
