Imam Khomeini Ideals Becoming Popular: African Academic

An academic from Ivory Coast says that the dynamic thought and ideals of the founder of the Islamic Republic are becoming increasingly popular among the African people.

Marietou Camara, a professor of international relations from Ivory Coast made remarks during an interview with Jamaran news agency. 


What comes following is the rough script of an interview with the professor. 


Q: How do you asses that people across the African continent are becoming familiar with Imam Khomeini’s dynamic thought? 


Camara:  The thought of the founder of the Islamic Republic are increasingly becoming popular among the people of Ivory Coast and other countries across Africa by the passage of time. The individuals especially those who suffer from colonial policies of France and other Western countries are taking more interests in Imam’s ideals, thought and works. 


Q: Are Imam Khomeini’s works are part of university curriculum across Africa?


Camara:   The works, ideas and theories of the founder of the Islamic Republic have already being explored in universities in across the continent. 


Q: How do you classify the political thought of the African people?


Camara:  Most of the people in Ivory Coast and across other African countries are against the policies of Western colonial powers. There are very small numbers who support western countries due to self interests and selfishness.  Most of the people like ideas by Imam Khomeini who has been a great supporter of the oppressed nations.


The academic concluded that the Islamic Revolution under the wise leadership of Imam Khomeini has earned great image and abundance for the Iranian nation and the other oppressed nations. He also noted that Iran is key player in resolving the problem of the Middle East, North Africa and horn of Africa regions. 


Rouhollah Mousavi Khomeini, better known as Imam Khomeini, was born in the central Iranian city of Khomein on September 24, 1902 to a family of scholars.


He led Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which culminated in the overthrow of the US-backed Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s monarchy. Pahlavi was Iran’s last monarch.


Imam Khomeini passed away on June 4, 1989 at the age of 87.
