In the same way that the masses of the weak and oppressed strata were ardent admirers of the Imam, the Imam too reserved plenty of love and affection for them. Time and again we heard the Imam state: “I am deeply indebted to this weak and oppressed people and am disappointed for not being able to do much for them. Global arrogance prevented me from fulfilling the promises I made to the weak and oppressed people and from doing anything for them.”
