Larijani made the remark in a Monday meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the Fourth World Conference of Parliament Speakers convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the United Nations (UN) in New York, Press TV reported.

“The parliaments should prevent the governments from aggression, war mongering or supporting terrorists and pave the way for investment and prosperity in order to stop terrorism,” the Iranian official told Press TV after his address to the event on Monday.

“There are certain governments that seem to favor democracy for their own people,” Larijani earlier told the gathering.

The Iranian speaker said the theory of warmongering under the pretext of expanding democracy has resulted in inappropriate behavior across the globe, saying certain governments are trying to enforce democracy in other countries with bombs and machine guns.

Larijani also hailed the recent conclusion of the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of world countries, describing it as an achievement for peace and justice in global politics.

In today’s world, some powers still believe that they can attain their political goals by resorting to force, pressure, and sanctions, the Iranian parliament speaker said in his speech.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 countries – the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – reached the agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.

It is noteworthy that Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic used to emphasize to maintaining amicable ties with all countries  that respect rights of oppressed nations.

The father of the Islamic revolution denounced all types of terrorism and all terrorist and militant groups that were hurting the Muslim nations and damaging the image of religion.
