International Book Fair kicks off in Tehran

29th Tehran International Book Fair has kicked off in Shahre Aftab (Sun City) Exhibition Complex in south of the capital, with a ceremony attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

President Rouhani inaugurated the international fair by delivering a speech to the opening ceremony on Tuesday. The president also paid a visit to the pavilion of Russia, a special guest in this year’s exhibition.


The opening ceremony was also attended by Iranian Minister of Culture Ali Jannati and Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as well as the Russian president’s envoy for the cultural affairs, a number of publishers and media members.


The international event, which is expected to be visited by millions, runs from May 04 until May 14.


The exhibition will experience a new atmosphere this year at Shahre Aftab, a newly-constructed fairground in southern Tehran. The ground covers an area over 300,000 hectares, as a good and suitable location for the international fair.


Figures show that around 2,400 Iranian publishers have attended this year’s book fair. Some 118,000 English publications are also being presented at the event.


It is noteworthy that the institute for compilation and publication of Imam Khomeini’s works has set up several stalls to promote works of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic for the domestic and international audience visiting the event.


Dozens of Imam’s works, which cover a various disciplines of knowledge, have been translated into several languages in recent years.


Imam Khomeini is considered a religious authority of high-caliber and had a well-command over philosophy, mysticism, Quran and Hadith sciences, Quranic interpretation and jurisprudence.


Several of Imam’s books and his works in digital forms have been presented at exhibitions in Iran and across the globe over past years.


Imam Khomeini’s books have become increasingly popular among academic, intellectuals, university and seminary figures and young generation.


Imam’s thought, ideals and divine legacy continue to attract millions of the Muslim and oppressednations in various parts of the world.
