Addressing a recent session of UN Security Council on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Khoshrou said the international community must work to prevent terror groups from obtaining such banned arms.
Khoshru warned against the access of terror groups to internationally-banned weapons.
Khoshru, whose country holds the rotating presidency of NAM, also voiced concerns over lack of progress in the dismantling of WMDs and the slow pace of denuclearization. He described nuclear disarmament as the movement’s “absolute priority,”
“NAM welcomes the establishment of zones free from nuclear weapons across the world and calls on all countries that are in possession of such weapons to unconditionally” join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Khoshrou said.
He demanded that the concept of using nukes or threatening to use them be omitted from international military doctrines.
The Iranian diplomat further expressed the movement’s support for creating a nuclear-free Middle East.
Khoshrou said that the Israeli regime, which has so far refused to join the NPT, must allow UN inspections of its nuclear facilities and should unconditionally and immediately sign the treaty.
Israel is a non-signatory to the NPT and continues to defy international calls to join the treaty. The Tel Aviv regime is widely believed to possess between 200 and 400 nuclear warheads,
It is noteworthy that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, showed his strong opposition towards developing, keeping or maintaining the weapons of mass destruction.
Imam Khomeini frequently through his speeches and messages used to condemn those powers that developed chemical or nuclear weapons for military or war purposes and were proliferating around the world.
Imam expressed on several occasions that the chemical or nuclear weapons have had no place in the Islamic Republic's policy and strategy.
Imam Khomeini, the contemporary Muslim world leader had forbidden development of any weapons that could harm the humanity on a large scale during peace or war.
Imam Khomeini in a historic message also denounced the imperialistic powers of arming former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein with chemical weapons who used these weapons of mass destruction against its own people and the Iranian nation.
