Summit on World against violence held in Tehran

A summit highlighting various themes and perspectives regarding the “world against violence” has been held in the Iranian capital.

The summit under the title of “Islamic Revolution and the world against violence” was organized at Research Institute of Imam Khomeini and Islamic Revolution. The event was attended by intellectuals, research scholars and academic figures from universities and seminaries.

Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Imam Khomeini also attended the summit. Several speakers delivered speeches and lectures at the conference, and round tables and study circles were also formed on the sidelines of the event.

Addressing the gathering of academics and intellectuals, Dr. Fatemeh Tabatabaei, the daughter- in- law of Imam Khomeini said that if someone behaves people with violence or hostility, such a person would actually distance from the intellect and divine nature.

Several articles had been earlier sent to secretariat of the summit to highlight various aspects of the topic, and a collection of selected writings would be published in a collection. The event comes as Iran has repeatedly announced that every problem can be settled through negotiations and it pursues the goal of achieving a world without violence.

The UN General Assembly In December 2013 overwhelmingly voted to approve Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani’s proposal, known as World against Violence and Extremism (WAVE). The proposal calls on all nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism.

President Rouhani made the proposal in his address to the UN Disarmament Conference in New York on September 25, 2013. It is worth to mention that the establishment of Islamic-democratic system under wise leadership of Imam Khomeini in 1979 promoted peace and defended rights of oppressed nations.
