Indonesian FM:

Necessity of the NAM's Cultural Development Based on Imam's Recommendations

In an interview with Imam Khomeini International Portal, the Indonesian FM emphasized on the necessity of the NAM's cultural development based on Imam Khomeini's recommendations.
In 1995, NAM started working during a very important conference in Bandung with no name. Although 6 years later the conference moved to Belgrade, the former Yugoslavian capital and today's Serbia, but the role of Asian countries and Indonesia had a very strong impact on the movement. One of the countries which have mostly affected the movement is the Islamic Republic of Iran which obtained more independency for the NAM by inspiration of Imam's foreign policy and the slogan "No East, No West".
The Indonesian FM considered NAM as the reason for Asian and African countries' unity and said: "The Anti-colonial notions of the great men such as Imam Khomeini caused the developments in foreign affairs of a country and also more unity among NAM members."
He also mentioned the goals of the movement's founders and said: "As we see, after five decades, country members are still faithful to their basic ideas."
Marty Natalegawa considered confronting the colonization as Imam Khomeini's foreign policy and said: "If you look at the movement's history you'll see that the main challenge of the member countries is confronting the colonization and colonizers, and also trying to gain their independency."
Indonesian foreign minister said: "NAM's policies are neither against a group nor they support them but they are based on some principals. Totally NAM's attitude is to try for gaining the independence and fighting for the economic development and there is no opposition with other countries."
He noted the role of NAM to develop the human values among the member countries based on religious leaders such as Imam Khomeini and considered the global peace as one of Imam Khomeini's goals and said: "I believe it is not correct to concentrate on military issues and neglect cultural, social and economic matters."
