After Imam arrived to Najaf, immediately after the Maghrib prayer, Ayatollah Khoei came to visit him. Hojatoleslam Mohammad Ali Rahmani describes this meeting: “… I remember that Ayatollah Khoei came to Imam’s residence. As he entered the room and saw Imam, he hugged Imam as he was crying. He was crying and reciting the famous verse in the Quran about the meeting of Joseph with his brothers.”
After Ayatollah Khoei, Ayatollah Shahroudi and on the third day Ayatollah Hakim came to visit Imam. Ayatollah Hakim’s meeting with Imam had a great importance because he was the number one Marja of the Shias and it could’ve helped with Imam’s position in Najaf. Imam’s followers who were aware of this issue tried to take a picture of this meeting to save it because inside Iran the Shah’s agents were trying to make a rumor that Ayatollah Hakim doesn’t approve Imam Khomeini.
Other scholars of the Najaf Hawzah also came to meet Imam, scholars such as Ayatollah Aqa Mirza Hassan Bojnourdi, Mr. Baghdadi, Sayyid Ali Beheshti, the Mar`ashi brothers, Sheikh Habibollah Araki and etc.
After the scholars other people came to visit Imam too, and because Imam’s house was small and the crowds which had come to visit him were too much, his followers decorated the apron of Ayatollah Boroujerdi’s school so they could hold the meeting there.
