Rouhani also accused Saudi regime of using the row over top Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr as an excuse to hide the crime and sever ties with Tehran. "Saudi Arabia cannot cover its crime of having cut off the head of a cleric by cutting relations."

Rouhani said that Saudi Arabian regime should not respond to criticism of its regime by beheading people. "One does not respond to criticism by cutting off heads."

Rouhani made remarks on Tuesday during a meeting with visiting Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen to Tehran.

The comments come days after Riyadh's execution of a prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, which triggered outcry and protest across various parts of the world

“I hope that European countries who always react on human rights matters will meet their duties," the president said.

It is noteworthy that Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic also in a series of speeches and messages used to criticize the crimes being committed by Al Saud against Muslim societies. Imam believed that the House of Saud was playing into hands of the world exploiting powers and were acting against interests of Muslims.
