In a joint presser following a Wednesday meeting with his Croatian counterpart, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, in Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the two sides have agreed to enhance their cooperation in the fight against extremism, particularly in the troubled Middle East region.

President Rouhani also called for closer relations between Tehran and Zagreb in various fields, particularly culture, economy and tourism.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani said that the visit by Kitarovic at the head of a high-ranking economic delegation shows the political will in Croatia to bolster trade ties with Iran.

Kitarovic, for her turn, highlighted the scourge of terrorism gripping countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. She also emphasized that her country would keep up cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

The Croatian president also noted that “The Islamic Republic of Iran can view Croatia as a good friend and partner in the European Union.”

The talks between the two leaders focused on the need to expand bilateral anti-terrorism cooperation, among other issues of mutual interest.

Kitarovic at the head of a high-ranking economic delegation arrived in Tehran for a three-day visit on Tuesday.

It is noteworthy that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic had frequently highlighted the need for maintaining close bilateral ties with all nations.

Imam also through his messages and speeches denounced all forms of violence and terrorism.

Following footsteps of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Iranian government has always been closely helping regional countries and cooperating with international community to counter terrorism.
