Iranian President Reasserts Allegiance to Late Imam Khomeini

The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and several senior members of his administration have paid tribute to the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini by laying wreaths at his mausoleum in Tehran on Saturday.

Dr. Hassan Rouhani and several members of his Cabinet reasserted their allegiance to the late great spiritual and religious leader of the Muslim world.

It is worth-mentioning that Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Imam Khomeini and several senior officials of the Institute for Compilation and Publication of Imam Khomeini's Works were also present at the ceremony. Mohammad Ali Ansari, the head of the Institute also accompanied the president.

The spiritual visit to the holy shrine took place on the first day of the Government Week, which is observed in Iran each year in commemoration of former President Mohammad-Ali Rajai and late Prime Minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar, who were assassinated in a terrorist attack on August 30, 1981.

The deadly attack was carried out by the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) terrorist group about two months after Iranian Chief Justice Mohammad Beheshti was assasinated along with 72 state officials and lawmakers in another MKO bombing in Tehran.

The MKO is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community and has committed against Iranians and some other regional nations.

Rouhani won Iran’s June 14 presidential election with 50.7 percent of a total of over 36 million ballots. The voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent. Rouhani has also called on regional countries to strengthen cooperation in order to settle ongoing regional and international problems.

The founder of the Islamic Republic was seriously committed to very basic principles and also made widespread use of dynamic thought and new approaches while implementing pure teachings among Muslims.
