Jaberi Ansari on Monday also reaffirmed the necessity of launching a firm campaign against the scourge of terrorism.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, in line with its principled policy in condemning terrorism and its strong determination to firmly and decisively counter this ominous phenomenon, denounces the recent terrorist attack in US [city of] Orlando,” the ministry spokesman said.

On Sunday, an American-born man who had pledged allegiance to the Daesh terrorist group killed 50 people at the Pulse Club in Orlando, Florida. At least 53 others were also wounded in the shooting.

According to media outlets affiliated with the terror group, Daesh later claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The US law enforcement agencies are investigating both domestic and international connections to the mass shooting.

It is worthy to mention that Imam Khomeini, the late founding member of the Islamic Republic through his speeches, messages and works strongly denounced all types of terrorism and violence.

Following the footsteps of the founder of the Islamic Republic, senior Iranian officials have made their top priority to confront terrorism.

The government of Iranian President Rouhani has campaigned for a World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) which was approved by the UN General Assembly in December 2013.
