Imam Khomeini Mosque opened in Zeynabiyeh District of Damascus

Damascus, Aug 16, IRNA – Imam Khomeini Mosque was officially opened in a ceremony Monday night on blessed birth anniversary of Imam Hassan al-Mojtaba (P) in Zeynabiyeh District of Syria’s capital city, Damascus.

According to the IRNA reporter in Damascus, the ceremony was held in the presence of a large number of university professors, clergies and seminary scholars from various countries, as well as officials from different Iranian organs in Syria, and there were a number of Syrian officials.
The evening congregational prayer was led by Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini, the representative of the Supreme Leader in Syria.
Eighty percent of the construction work of Imam Khomeini Mosque, including its prayer hall is completed and the daily prayers are going to be held congregationally at it as of now.
The three story 4.000 square meter mosque is constructed at an 850 square meter land.
Due to the importance of cultural work, a part of the mosque is allocated to cultural purposes, including an amphitheater, a library, and a digital center. The major part of construction costs for the mosque is contributed by philanthropist people.
The ground breaking ceremony of the mosque was hit on august 18th, 2009 by the Head of the Supreme Leader’s Office Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Mohammadi Golpaygani.
