Imam Asserted Active Participation of Women in Society

Imam Khomeini has always been encouraging the active participation of women in culture, politics, defense and several other arenas of life.

Imam’s written works and speeches indicate that he was a supporter of women’s involvement in social and political life of the society.

He also used to emphasize the importance of women’s role in implementing the Islamic and moral values through all stratums of the Islamic nations.

“The women along shoulder to shoulder with men in the Islamic Republic are busy in building and constructing the country,” he noted during a speech to a large gathering.

The enlightened leader of the Muslim world believed that "women have been experiencing a great scale of oppression and becoming victim at the hands of backward-minded local governments and superstitious traditions through the history."

Imam believed that these backward elements had been intentionally   promoting wrong ideas and perceptions regarding the women across the societies in a bid to achieve their vicious objectives.

The great leader was a great supporter of the women rights and had always been highlighting the real status of women across the societies.

His Eminence also said “Our women have liberated themselves from the clutches of deprivations imposed on them by the enemies of Islam and the Holy Qur’an as well as by the inadequate knowledge of some friends on the Islamic tenets. They have bravely discarded the superstitions wrongly created by enemies and some ignorant clerics,” (Sahifeh-ye Imam, vol. 21, p. 398).
