Remembering Imam Khomeini

Millions of faithful devotees have recently marked the 27th passing away anniversary of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

 By the passage of time, Imam Khomeini’s universal message is attracting millions of people, particularly youths, from across Iran and the various parts of the world.


Commenting on the ever-growing popularity of Imam Khomeini’s ideals and thought, a recent New York Times’ report has said that 27 years after passing away of Imam Khomeini, his mausoleum remains as one of the largest religious complexes and focal point for attentions of believers from across the world.


Imam Khomeini has been an unprecedented who remained equally popular during his lifetime and after his heavenly departure on June 03, 1989. The report stresses that millions of people had also taken to the streets to pay him respect and tributes to Imam Khomeini, and attended his funeral at Behest-e Zahra cemetery in 1989.


Friends and opponents admit that Imam Khomeini felt a holy mission to rid Iran, the entire Islamic Ummah and oppressed nations of what he saw as Western corruption and degeneracy.


Imam established an Islamic-democratic system in Iran in accordance with the wishes of public masses.  The system put Iran on the track of progress, strengthened the entire Muslim Ummah, restored dignity to the oppressed nations, and revived the divine and spiritual values in contemporary era.


Imam drove Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi from the Peacock Throne and founded the world’s first and only Islamic republic governed by a religious political ideology in 1979.


The Islamic Revolution under the wise leadership of Imam changed the balance of power and confronted inhumane policies being practiced against developing and oppressed nations by the world exploiting and colonial powers.


The Islamic revolution emerged victorious at a sensitive juncture of history when the world powers had divine the world into two eastern and western blocs.


Imam also revived divine, spiritual and moral values at a time when the world had been plunged into social and moral decline.


Another major achievement accomplished by Imam was to bring followers of all Muslim sects and supporters of divine religion under the banner of monotheism. Imam invited them all to unite in order to confront colonial agenda and confront cruelty, injustice, inequality and suppression. 


Besides decorating himself with divine and moral characteristics, Imam had well command over several disciplines of knowledge, which include philosophy, mysticism, jurisprudence, Quranic and Hadith sciences, and literature and poetry.


Imam was also a writer of high-caliber as several of his books contain treasure of mysticism and attract readers and followers of all divine religions.


Imam’s ideals will continue to win hearts and minds of millions of devotees and faithful people from across the globe in coming centuries.
