Bahram Qassemi on Sunday also paid tribute to the 16th anniversary of the Second Palestinian Intifada (uprising), also known as the al-Aqsa Intifada, which left more than 3,000 Palestinians dead.

The spokesperson also paid homage to the Palestinians who sacrificed their lives during the Intifada to counter the Tel Aviv regime’s brutal acts.

The Second Intifada broke out in September 2000 following a visit by Israel’s then leader, Ariel Sharon, to Haram al-Sharif or Temple Mount in Jerusalem al-Quds. The move was denounced by Palestinians as highly provocative.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the spokesman stressed that the continuation of resistance by the Palestinian people will foil the desperate efforts of the Israeli regime to carry on with its atrocities in the occupied lands.

“The international community strongly denounced the cruel moves by the Zionist regime [of Israel] in violating the Palestinians’ rights, Judaizing [Jerusalem] al-Quds, desecrating and destroying the al-Aqsa mosque and expanding its settlements as well as killing, jailing and torturing women, men and children.”

It is worthy to mention that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, through his speeches and messages strongly denounced crimes being committed by the Israeli regime against Palestinians.

Imam defended the rights of the Palestinian nation and raised the issue on the international arena.
