Millions rally worldwide to mark International Quds Day

Millions of demonstrators across Iran and several other parts of the world are attending rallies to mark International Quds Day and show solidarity with the Palestinian cause

The massive marches and rallies in support of Palestinian people started at 10:30 local time (06:00 GMT) in capital Tehran and 8:50 others Iranian cities. At least nine routes have been identified for the rallies throughout Tehran.

People taking part in the rallies are seeking to press the Israeli regime to respect Palestinian rights and communicate to the world the deplorable status of the Palestinians.

At the massive rally in Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani told reporters that the Israeli regime is bound by none of the internationals norms and is a base for the global arrogance in the region.  “Today, any country that fights this base and any country that wants stability and security in this region, is looked upon unfavorably by the global arrogance.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the president said that the message of the Iranian people is that the Palestinians are not alone in their struggle against oppression and occupation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif , who  also took part in the rallies in Tehran, said that “The Muslim people of the region and the world,” Dr. Zarif said, “still identify the Zionist regime (Israel) as the biggest threat to the Islamic world and international peace and security.”

Each year, millions of people around the world stage rallies on this day to repeat their call for an end to the Tel Aviv regime’s atrocities and its occupation of the Palestinian territories.

The activists, including Muslims and non-Muslims, voice their support for the Palestinian nation and urge international community and the world organizations to break their silence over the Israeli crimes

The international Quds day is considered as legacy and initiative of Imam late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Back in 1979, Imam Khomeini declared the last Friday of the lunar fasting month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day. The victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 under the wise leadership of Imam Khomeini strengthened the Palestinian cause and changed balance of power in the interests of oppressed and developing nations.

Declaration of the Quds Day
by Imam Khomeini

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

For many years I have been warning Muslims of the menace posed by the usurper Israel which has recently intensified her savage raids on our Palestinian brothers and sisters. Bent on the destruction of Palestinian freedom fighters, Israel has been ceaselessly bombing their houses and homes in South Lebanon.

I call on the Muslims of the world as well as on all Muslim governments to join forces to cut down this usurper and its supporters. I invite Muslims all over the globe to consecrate the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan- which is a `day of fate' and which could also become the day on which the fate of the Palestinian people might be determined- as `Quds Day' and to proclaim the international solidarity of Muslims in support of the legitimate rights of the Muslim people (of Palestine). I pray to the Almighty for the victory of the Muslims over the infidels. May God's peace, mercy and blessings be upon you"

Rouhullah al-Mousawi al-Khomein
