Special spiritual events and ceremonies had been arranged on nights of 19th, 21st and 23rd of the holy month of Ramadan from 22.30 p.m to 2:00 a.m local time.

The prominent speakers delivered speeches to highlight justice and other perspectives of divine personality of Imam Ali, the truthful successor of the holy prophet of Islam.

Speaking to crowds, Hojjat al-Islam Natiq Nouri emphasized on importance of unity among various walks of people and political and social groups

The developments come as dressed in black, thousand of Iranians gathered in the main squares of Tehran and other cities to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the first Imam Ali (Peace Be upon Him).

Muslims believe despite the passage of over 1300 years from his martyrdom, Imam Ali’s legacy still continues to attract more people around the world. As the Imam of Shia Muslims and the ruler of the Islamic world, Imam Ali was against capitalistic system of economy and favored equal distribution of wealth among all people.

Ali Ibn Abi Talib was Prophet Mohammed’s cousin and son-in-law; He was well known for his great knowledge. Prophet Mohammed described himself as the city of knowledge whose gate was Ali. Imam Ali was attacked by Ibn Muljam with a poisonous sword while worshipping in the Great Mosque of Kufa on the 19th of Ramadan and was martyred a few days later on Ramadan 21, 661 AD.

In Muslim culture, Imam Ali is respected for his courage, knowledge, belief, honesty, deep loyalty to Prophet Muhammad, equal treatment of all Muslims and generosity in forgiving his defeated enemies.

It is noteworthy that Imam Khomeini emphasized on following footsteps of Imam Ali (PBUH) which could save humanity from plunging into moral and social decline.
