Mourning ceremony held at Imam Khomeini shrine

A mourning ceremony has been held at the holy mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic during the first days of the Holy month of Muharram.

The ceremony was held in commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Husain, the Doyen of the Martyrs, the second child of Imam Ali and Hadrat Fatimah, and the grandson  grandson of the Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon them). 

Ziyarat al-Ashura, a prayer in commemoration of the martyrdom of the grandson of the holy prophet of Islam, was also recited during the ceremony. 

The gathering was attended by people from various walks of life. The senior seminary and university scholars delivered speeches to shed light on the divine characteristics and message of Ashura. 

Imam Khomeini, the contemporary leader of the Muslim world said in a historic message that Ashura upraising protected the genuine Islam forever and led to collapse of the pillars of brutal monarchy. 

Imam Khomeini’s holy mausoleum which is located on the outskirts of Tehran has become center for religious, cultural and academic activities, and is frequently visited by tourists, pilgrims and devotes from across Iran and the world.
