The devotees paid homage to ideals of the founder of the Islamic Republic, and also cast their vote at polling stations set up on premises of the mausoleum on the Election Day which coincided this Friday.
The messages left by Imam Khomeini show that participating in election and choosing efficient lawmakers and deputies is a social and religious duty which we owe to previous and next generation.
Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum which is located on the suburbs of Tehran has become center of religious, academic, social, cultural and political activities.
A massive turnout has been announced for the elections which were held to choose members for the parliament and Assembly of experts.
About 55 million Iranians were eligible to vote in the elections.
The polls have closed and the process of counting ballots is now underway.
The polls closed in Iran’s crucial elections at 23:45 local time (2015 GMT) on Friday.
The came after voting was extended several times due to a massive voter turnout and participation.
Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli earlier said that turnout was estimated to be around 70 percent based on opinion polls.
The process of counting ballots is already underway. The results would be announced by Saturday evening.
Parliament members are elected every four years while members of the Assembly serve eight-year.
