Imam Khomeini showed great tolerance

An Iranian Sunni Muslim scholar says the late founder of Islamic Republic showed great amount of tolerance towards all religions and Islamic sects.

Moulana Abdolhamid, the Sunni leader in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province made remarks while addressing an international summit in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

He went onto say that Imam Khomeini was an open-minded leader of the Muslim world who staunchly opposed all types of sectarian strife, and took serious efforts to eradicate Sunni-Shia divide among Muslims. 

According to senior Sunni cleric, genuine Islamic teachings and Imam's ideals highlight the need for engaging dialogue with all divine religions and the entire world.

He also warned against conspiracies being hatched by some colonial powers to spread divisions among Muslims by creating extremist groups.

Several other Shia and Sunni scholar also delivered speeches and lectures at the summit on “Imam Khomeini and Muslim Ummah” underscoring the need for promoting unity among the entire Muslim Ummah  

The summit was attended by hundreds of foreign guests who are in the Iranian capital to participate in the 27th passing away anniversary of Imam Khomeini. 

The summit ended with closing remarks by Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the Imam Khomeini, the late founding leader of the Islamic Republic. 

It is worth to mention that Imam Khomeini has been considered as a champion of unity in contemporary era, as he attempted to unite all faithful people and followers of all divine religions to confront the aggressive policies.
