Terrorist attack leaves 84 dead in France

An attacker has rammed a truck into the crowd in the southern French city of Nice in what is being described as a terrorist attack.

Latest Reports indicate that more than 84 people have been killed and hundreds more were injured in the fatal attack.

The casualties were caused after truck driver ploughed through a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day, France's national day, which is celebrated on July 14 each year, at high speed. Revelers and eyewitnesses say the driver zigzagged as he was mowing the people to hit as many as possible.

The attacker also opened fire before French security forces shot him dead. French authorities have recovered explosives and firearms on the truck.

French law enforcement agencies say the truck driver has been formally identified, saying he was a 31-year-old French-Tunisian man. France has opened an investigation for murder and attempted murder by an organized terrorist group.

France has seen several major terrorist attacks over the past few months

Also on November 13, 2015, assailants struck at least six different venues in and around Paris. The terrorist attacks, claimed by Daesh, left 130 people dead and over 350 others wounded.
