UNSC demands end to Israeli settlements

The United Nations has passed a resolution demanding Israeli regime stop building illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.

The resolution was put forward at the UN Security Councilfor a vote on Friday and was adopted with 14 votes in favor, to a round of applause.

The resolution states that "Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem." It also demands that Israeli settlements have "no legal validity" and are "dangerously imperilling the viability of the two-state solution”.

Reacting to the developments, Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erekat said: “The international community has told the people of Israel that the way to security and peace is not going to be done through occupation.” Friday's vote enables the adoption of the first UN resolution since 1979 to condemn Israel over its settlement policy. Built on occupied land, the settlements are internationally condemned as illegal and equal to land grab. Over half a million Israelis live in over 230 illegal settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds.

It is worthy to mention that the Islamic Revolution in Iran under the wise leadership of Imam Khomeini raised the Palestinian issue on the international arena, and defended the rights of Palestinians and oppressed people around the globe.
