Imam Khomeini used to stress co-existence of followers of all religions

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Revolution, used to stress the peaceful co-existence of all religions.

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Revolution used to hold meetings with leaders and followers of divine religions.

Imam also advised them to become united under the banner of monotheism and form a united front in order to confront the aggressive policies of colonial powers.

Imam held historic meetings with Christians, Jewish and Zoroastrians and stressed on the need of peaceful existence of all followers.

This comes as substitute Friday prayers leader of Tehran Ayatollah Kazem Sediqi has recently called for peaceful co-existence of followers of different religions and their full freedom to perform their religious duties.

Ayatollah Sediqi made the remarks in a meeting with Georgian Orthodox Patriarch Ilia II on Tuesday, as Iran’s Ambassador to Georgia Javad Qavam Shahidi was also present there.

While underlining relations among religions, Hojjatoleslam Sediqi said many tyrannical steps have been taken in today’s world, which have caused clashes and conflicts, so more attention needs to be paid to such trends.

The two sides also surveyed condition of religious minorities in Georgia.

The Georgian archbishop recalled his meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader Imam Seyed Ali Khamenei and underlined importance of historical and cultural relations between Iran and Georgia.
