Observers believe that it is necessary to work out the ideas of Imam Khomeini, a great scholar and mystic of the contemporary era, who initiated a great public movement in the light of the genuine Islamic teachings and established an Islamic-democratic system in Iran.

Comparing his ideas about politics with other approaches, Imam Khomeini once said:
“The politics that I am talking about is the politics of our country. It is a perfect form of politics that the Prophet of Islam and our leaders in Islam practiced. They came to guide people and lead them towards their real interest. Politics is meant to guide people and take into account all interests of the society and man. This is the politics of the Prophets which others are unable to implement.”
Imam Khomeini, the leader of contemporary Muslim world, time and again emphasized that neither force nor heredity can constitute a source for the legitimacy of an Islamic government. The founder of the Islamic Revolution considers two factors for legitimacy of an Islamic government: Divine legitimacy and public allegiance.
