One of the things that Imam Khomeini considered essential for the existence of the Qom Theological Seminary, following the death of its founder Ayatollah Haeri Yazdi, was the presence of Ayatollah Boroujerdi, who was one of the foremost theologians in terms of erudition and moral virtues, in the city. Thus, Imam Khomeini made extensive efforts to have him reside in Qom, and according to my mother, when the late Ayatollah Boroujerdi was admitted to the Firouzabadi Hospital in Shahr-e Rey (a county in south Tehran) to undergo surgery, the Imam would at times write fifty to sixty letters daily for the theologians throughout the country asking them to request Mr. Boroujerdi to take up residence in Qum. Finally, as a result of the tremendous efforts made by the Ulema–respected theologians–and especially by His Holiness Imam Khomeini in this direction, the late Ayatollah Boroujerdi consented to take up residence in the holy city of Qom.
