Iran marks beginning of new school year

President Rouhani advised teachers to acquaint their students with the right way to work with the cyberspace.

The Iranian school year officially begins in fall every year and continues until the beginning of summer. Together with New Year Holidays in March, summers are when schools are off.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has struck a bell marking the beginning of the new school year in the Islamic Republic.

The president inaugurated the new school year at Shahid Bahonar Girls’ School in the capital, Tehran, on Saturday.

There, he congratulated Iranian students, teachers, and education authorities on the occasion.

President Rouhani advised teachers to acquaint their students with the right way to work with the cyberspace, “since the cyberspace is like a double-edged sword, which can either destroy our lives or build the path of growth and elevation for us.”

Rouhani said his first request from the country’s minister of education in his recently-inaugurated cabinet had been to help students learn a profession within the 12-year-long school process so they can begin working in the society, should they choose not to pursue academic education.

The president further advised tolerance and respect for others’ ideas within schools.

Rouhani also hailed Iranian students’ achievements in world science olympiads and the performance of Iranian elite within notable international academic circles.
