Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) revived Islam, furthered divine objectives

The late founder of the Islamic Republic through a series of historic messages said that Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) martyrdom revived the school of Islam.

According to Imam Khomeini, the Islamic school of thought came alive by martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH), the grandfather of the holy prophet of Islam.

Some of Imam Khomeini’s famous quotes in this regard come as following:

The martyrdom of the Doyen of the Martyrs did no harm Islam in the least; it took Islam forward. Had it not been for his martyrdom, Mu‘āwiyah and his son would have shown Islam in another way to the world in the name of being the Prophet’s caliph. ( Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.8, page 417)

Talking about the Doyen of the Martyrs is the topic of the day; it is always so. The Doyen of the Martyrs has always been bringing the topic of the day and placing it in our hands. All this lamentation, this narration of the tragic events, this enthusiasm, the breast-beating, and these flocks of people have preserved the school of Islam. ( Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.8, page 455)

Islam will endure. Islam made greater progress following the martyrdom of the Doyen of the Martyrs. (Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.8, page 298)

The Doyen of the Martyrs and all his companions were slaughtered, but they furthered the cause of the school nonetheless. The school did not suffer a defeat; it progressed. (   Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.8, page 323)

The Doyen of the Martyrs who sacrificed his life did not want to rule; he wanted justice to exist.

(Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.8, page 357)

Imām Husayn with a few people sacrificed everything he had for Islam. He resisted a great empire and said “no.”(Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.10, page 222)

Imām Husayn (PBUH) sacrificed his entire close relatives, his faithful disciples, and himself, and after his martyrdom Islam gained greater strength. (Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.15, page 117)

The Doyen of Martyrs also sacrificed his life for Islam. Islam is the biggest thing trusted to us by God. ( Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.15, page 12)

11- What a good selection that the birthday of His Holiness the Doyen of the Martyrs—peace be upon him—is named the Guards Corps Day. (Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.17, page 413)

I hope that in the same way that Imām Husayn—may God’s peace be upon him—revived Islam with his blood, you too in simulation of him, guarantee the Revolution and Islam.

(Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.17, page 413)

Keep alive Karbalā and the blessed name of His Holiness the Doyen of the Martyrs for it was his life that kept alive Islam.

(Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.17, page 465)

The Doyen of the Martyrs, his companions and household have taught the duties: sacrifice in the battlefield and preaching outside the battlefield.(Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.17, page 49)

Even in their supplications if you study the supplications of Imām Sajjad and other Immaculate Imāms, you see that they brim with advice to prepare people for higher stations, which are beyond the grasp of ordinary people. Invitation to monotheism, purification of the self, detachment the world and confiding God Almighty.

(Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.18, page 349)

In one night, Imām as-Sajjād has been narrated as saying until morning: “O God! Grant me a day of detachment and separation from the abode of vanity, return to the abode of felicity, and preparation for death before dying.”

The issue is a great one. They are in front of the majesty of God. When they assess themselves, they realize that they are nothing and have nothing. This is the truth of the matter: except Him there is nobody and there is nothing when they pay attention to the world of plurality but the command of God. (Sahifeh-ye-Imam, Vol.20, page 269)
