Imam Khomeini Asserted the Supremacy of Knowledge

Imam Khomeini the founder of the Islamic Republic and great leader of the Islamic world used to emphasize that knowledge of various discipline and sciences could guarantee the material and spiritual prosperity of nations.

The great Imam noted that the religious and material knowledge and an interdisciplinary approach to objects could bring prosperity to the nations in this world and the hereafter.

“It is through knowledge that man can secure his prosperity in this world and the next. It is through teaching that man can train and educate the youth in such a way that they are able to safeguard their own interests in this world and the hereafter,”  said the great Imam.

The great religious and spiritual leader of the Muslim world proved that glorious Quran had explicitly announced the superiority of the people of knowledge.

Imam frequently used to cite the following verse from the holy Quran as evidence and standard of superiority and supremacy of knowledgeable men:

Are those who know equal with those who know not?

“Islam strives to that extent for the experts and specialists. In both common laws and religious laws it has given preference to the (one who is) more expert; it has given preference to the more expert opinion,” Imam noted.

According to Imam, Islam and the holy prophet had highlighted the importance of knowledge and need for continuous learning. Human beings are in need of knowledge, learning and training until the last moment of the life.

The great leader also used to cite the following concept stated in the hadith that [seeking] knowledge is from cradle up to the grave.

Several experts say that Imam encouraged the Muslim nations and oppressed people to gain scientific and religious knowledge in order to find their real place and status in societies.
