Imam Put Emphasizes on Self-Purification During Holy Month of Ramadan

Hojjat al-Islam Mohammad Ali Khosravi, the research director of the institute for the compilation and publication of Imam Khomeini's works said that the great Imam used to remain at forefront of the spiritual transformation and also encouraged others during this holy period.

The great religious and spiritual leader of the Muslim world used to cancel or reduced almost all regular and public and governmental meetings during the holy Ramadan, said Khosravi.

He went onto say that Imam used to recite Quran and supplications narrated by the holy prophet of Islam and his infallible successors during these sacred times and completed reciting the holy book at least for three times during the holy month The intellectual noted Imam wrote a very precious interpretation and exposition on 'supplication of dawn' [Dua-ye Sahar] which is originally narrated by infallible Imam Baqir (peace be upon him). These supplications contain a great depth and precious monotheistic and mystic points, the intellectual noted.

The great leader of the Muslim Ummah used to insist that if nothing was left by Imam Baqir (PBUH) other than the supplications, these were great evidence of his deep source of divine knowledge. These supplications consists of the great divine names and attributes and  Imam Khomeini has written an introduction that these valuable supplications are a source of maintaining spiritual ties between the creator and creatures and is a rope which connects this material world to that of the heavens,  Khosravi said.

According to holy Quran, observing fast has been a spiritual ritual which has also deep roots in all divine regions earlier than Islam. The philosophy behind fasting is self- training and self- purification. The ultimate purpose of sending all religions, revealing divine books, assigning of the holy prophets have been to produce good human beings who can spread all goodness among the societies. This all needs a constant practice and good intention.

The believers, followers and faithful people willingly bring themselves under scrutiny of God the Almighty and train their souls in accordance with pure teachings of divine revelations. The believers can accomplish certain divine objectives by observing fasts and paying a special and a constant attention to spirituality and divinity.

By the end of month, the believers are awarded with Eid by God the merciful as reward for their good deeds. Some hadiths attributed to the holy prophet and his infallible successors narrate as following:  "The real Eid has been allocated for those whose worships, prayers and fasts are accepted during this holy month of Ramadan."
