In a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty on Friday, Araghchi discussed the latest developments in the Iran-US talks, especially the third round held in Geneva on Thursday.
Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s commitment to using diplomacy to resolve issues. However, he stressed that “Success on this path requires seriousness and realism from the other party and [its] avoidance of any miscalculation and excessive demands.”
For his part, the Egyptian minister stressed his country’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving outstanding issues regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
He stressed the need for talks between Tehran and Washington to continue in order to reach a “moderate” solution and avoid escalation in the region.
Abdelatty also emphasized the need to avoid any military solution, warning that such an option would have very serious consequences on the region.
Separately, Araghchi held a phone conversation on Friday with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, conferring on international and regional developments, including the nuclear talks.
During the phone call with Hussein, Iran’s top diplomat pointed ti the importance of maintaining talks between regional countries to preserve the region’s peace and stability.
The third round of indirect Iran-US talks was held on Thursday in a building belonging to the Omani Embassy in Geneva.
Iran and the United States resumed negotiations nearly eight months after talks were derailed by unprovoked Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic last June, continuing indirect discussions facilitated by Omani mediation.
Earlier this month, Araghchi said Iran has always pursued the path of diplomacy while at the same time maintaining its readiness for any war.
His remarks came following weeks of escalating tensions caused by the US war rhetoric against Iran.
Washington began its war rhetoric against Iran after recent economic protests in the country, which were hijacked by foreign spy agencies and turned violent.
Since then, the US president has kept threatening military action against Iran, deploying two carrier groups and dozens of fighter jets, bombers, and refueling aircraft to regional waters near Iran.
