Imam Exercised Great Caution About Public Money

Imam Khomeini the great religious and spiritual leader of the Muslim world was extraordinarily careful about spending public money throughout all stages of his life.

Relatives and friends say that the great Imam didn't allow family members to use office phone for personal purposes during his stay in the holy city of Najaf.

Nobody was permitted to pick up phone and dial for abroad except for religious purposes or for welfare of the community.

One of Imam's sons recalls that once he called outside Najaf and was obliged to pay dues and parts of the bill to the accountant.

The great leader used to follow footsteps of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) while dealing with public funds and money. It has been reported through historical traditions that Imam Ali, the commander of the faithful and true successor of the holy prophet of Islam used to advise his staff members and companions to make the peak of pens thinner and reduce space between lines while doing official correspondence and writing letters.

Imam also advised his staff members to never waste a piece paper and use rough papers for correspondence and writings.

The great Imam also continued this pattern of being extra cautious about public funds and advised the government officials to use all of their potentials to render services to the public and Muslims around the world.

Imam used to put aside all personal interests and launched a great campaign to fight poverty, illiteracy and inequality and undertook serious efforts for wellbeing of Islamic societies.
