Imam Repeatedly warned Against Saddam Aggression

Imam Khomeini the founder of the Islamic Republic had repeatedly warned the international community against the crimes the Iraqi dictator was committing against the Iraqi people and the Iranian nation.

The war began when Iraqi Baath regime backed by colonial powers invaded Iran and attacked without formal warning on 22 September 1980.

Saddam forces made only limited progress into Iran and were quickly repelled; the Islamic Republic of Iran regained virtually all lost territory by June 1982.

However, Saddam regime continued its war for the next six years and committed several crimes during this period of time.

After years of silence, ultimately, the United Nations and international community recognized that Iraqi dictator was aggressor of eight-year long imposed war against the Iranian nation.

The eight-year long imposed war finally ended with the Resolution 598, a UN-brokered ceasefire which was accepted by both sides in 1988.

The Saddam regime had used weapons of mass destruction against Iranian troops, civilians, and Iraqi people as well.

Imam Khomeini had strongly condemned the crimes and use of chemical weapons by Saddam regime and the silence of international community and world bodies. These chemicals weapons were provided by some western colonial powers to the Iraqi dictator.

Imam had warned the West and some regional countries assisting Saddam at the time that the dictator will turn against them at some point. Imam's prediction came true later years when Saddam launched several aggressions and invasion against its own backers.

The great leader advised the nation to exercise great patience and appreciated the sacrifices rendered by the Iranians during those tough years of war.

Under the wise leadership of Imam, the Iranians could defend their sovereignty, dignity and country against the aggression. Imam and his faithful followers set great examples of patience, sacrifices and wisdom at this juncture of history.

Imam issued several statements in favor of Iraqi, Iranians and other regional Muslim and oppressed nations and strongly denounced the dictators such as Saddam and his colonial backers.

Imam’s divine conduct will be remembered for the future generations and decades to come.
