Kofi Annan led-delegation visits Imam Khomeini’s holy Shrine

Members of a high-profile delegation-led by the former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan have paid their tributes by visiting to the holy shrine of Imam Khomeini in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

During their visit, Annan and other prominent figures visited Imam Khomeini's shrine located on the suburbs of Tehran.

The delegation is lead by former United Nations' chief Kofi Annan. The other members of the delegation include Desmond Tutu, former Archbishop of Cape Town, Martti Ahtisaari, former President of Finland, Ernesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico and many others.

The members of delegation belong to a group which aims at promoting cordial ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran. In 2007, the group was founded by former South African president Nelson Mandela (died 2013), a friend and supporter of the founder of the Islamic Republic.

The members of the group use their collective experience to promote peace and justice across the globe.

The group will meet Iranian high-profile officials to discuss about important regional and international developments. Its members will also debate the recent endorsement by the UN and President Hasan Rouhani’s proposed Act, World Against Violence And Extremism (WAVE), in an attempt to create a world without violence.

The group will discuss the regional and international role played by the Islamic Republic of Iran in solving issues and extending ties based on mutual respect.

It is worth-mentioning that the late leader of the South Africa, Nelson Mandela, used to say Imam Khomeini the founder of the Islamic Republic should be considered as a leader of all freedom movements and should be followed throughout all times and eras.

Mandela met the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution Sayyid Ali Khamenei in 1999 in Tehran and after the historic meeting he said that the great Imam Khomeini was not only a leader for the great nation of Iran but he would have been considered as the great guide of the ongoing freedom movements across the globe.

The African leader also expressed his pride to pay pilgrimage to holy shrine of Imam Khomeini for twice and said that the great Imam had confronted the conspiracies and plots of colonial powers in our contemporary era.
