Imam Khomeini Sought Competent Clerics

A prominent cleric says the founder of the Islamic Republic wanted to seek very competent clerics who could become well-learned and well-established in knowledge and play an active role in the society.

The remarks were made recently by Ayatollah Mohsen Garavian while addressing a gathering of intellectuals, clerics and seminary students.

The famous cleric maintained that Imam Khomeini wanted the clergymen to equip themselves with variety of disciplines of knowledge including jurisprudence, Quranic interpretation, philosophy , hadith and several other inter disciplinary fields.

From viewpoint of Imam, the other quality of the clerics and seminary students is to decorate themselves with ethics, virtues and piety, Ayatollah Garavian added.

The third most significant quality of the clergymen should be being a revolutionary. In other words the cleric should have serious concerns about the difficulties and problems facing the society and masses, the famous intellectual noted.

Imam Khomeini the founder of the Islamic Republic advised seminary students and clergymen to pay serious attention and undertake efforts for their self and soul purification.

The founder of the Islamic Republic in this regard said as following:

First of all, we should edify ourselves. When we call ourselves clergy, we should be heavenly and spiritual. We should introduce ourselves as the clergy and teacher in society. What happens if, God forbid, a teacher does something wrong? God forbid, if it grows more, the clergy will fail. Defeat of clergy is defeat of Islam. It is the clergy who have preserved Islam up to this level and who have saved, collected and promulgated all Islamic laws.
