In a joint press conference with his South African counterpart, Jacob Zuma, in Tehran on Sunday, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani called for strengthening “intelligence and political” cooperation in a genuine fight against terrorism and violence.
“This can be very helpful and effective in combating terrorist groups,” President Rouhani said.
The two sides also discussed political coordination and possible cooperation between the two countries’ intelligence services.
The Iranian president said both Iran and South Africa believe that a political solution can restore stability to Syria while an inter-Yemeni dialog can settle the conflict in the impoverished country.
The leaders of two countries also urged support for the Iraqi government in its fight against terrorism.
Tehran and Pretoria also agreed to boost cooperation in the fields of joint venture, agriculture, management of water resources, trade and industry, customs, fight against money-laundering and oil and culture.
Zuma accompanied by a 180-member politico-economic delegation, arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran on Sunday at the invitation of President Rouhani to discuss ways to strengthen relations between the two nations.
