Fallujah liberation, a victory over terrorism

Following the liberation of the strategic western city of Fallujah from the grips of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group, thousands of Iraqis took to the streets across several cities to celebrate the victory.

Mass marches were organized in the capital, Baghdad, and several other parts of the country, after people broke their dawn-to-dusk fast for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The participants attending the rallies hailed security forces as well as fighters from Popular Mobilization units for their victories in Fallujah in Anbaar Province,

They city which is located roughly 69 kilometers (43 miles) west of Baghdad, is of great strategic significance.

On May 23, Iraqi forces launched a massive military operation to take back Fallujah the city from clutches of terrorists.

During the high-scale security operation, Daesh militants took hostages among the trapped civilians, using them as human shields to slow down the advances by the government forces.

Ultimately on June 17, Iraqi forces backed by volunteers managed to raise their national flag on the main government complex in Fallujah. This came after the Daesh terrorists had lost their defenses there in the course of the weeks-long offensive.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi congratulated the nation after defeat of terrorists in Fallujah, saying there is no place in the country for Daesh terrorists. “There is no place in Iraq for you [terrorists] and you will be punished for all the crimes you have committed. The Iraqi people are all united against you. Get out of our country, for Iraq is for Iraqis.”

The Iraqi premier has pledged to rid the entire country of Daesh by the end of 2016.

In a message to his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif congratulated his Iraqi counterpart on the recent liberation of the city of Fallujah from Daesh terrorists.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has praised the “brave and brilliant” victory of the Iraqi forces against Daesh Takfiris in Fallujah.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has recently pledged to keep assisting neighboring countries in the ongoing fighting against terrorist groups such as Daesh.

The Iranian government of President Rouhani has campaigned for a World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) which was approved by the UN General Assembly in December 2013.
