Seyyed Hassan Khomeini meets Shahid Fahmideh’s family

A grandson of the late founder of the Islamic Republic has met family members of martyr Mohammad Hussein Fahmideh, an Iranian child hero.

Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, grandson of Imam Khomeini hailed sacrifices rendered by Fahmideh at a sensitive juncture of history.

The meeting comes weeks before the martryrdom anniversay of Fahmideh is set to take place at Imam Khomeini’s holy mausoleum which is located on the southern suburbs of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Fahmideh was a boy from Qom who, at the outbreak of war in 1980 left his home without his parents knowing to go to southern Iran and aid in the defense of Khorramshahr during the imposed war launched by the then Iraqi dictator Saddam against Iranian nation.

On the front line of the war in the besieged city of Khorramshahr , he fought side-by-side with older Iranian soldiers.

At one point, due to a lack of RPG rockets and the sensitive formation of the Iraqi tanks, Fahmideh, seeing that his older comrades were already dead or wounded.

Fahmideh managed to stop the advancing tanks of Saddam regime by sacrificing his life.

This led the Iraqi tank column to believe that the Iranians had mined the area, ceasing their advance.

Following his martyrdom, Imam Khomeini issued the following message:

“Our leader is that 12-year old child who with his small heart, far greater than hundreds of our tongues and pens, threw himself under the enemy’s tank with a grenade in hand and destroyed it, and thus drank the nectar of martyrdom.” (Imam Khomeini).
