Hassan Khomeini lauds Olympic weightlifter

A grandson of the late founder of the Islamic Republic meets Kianoush Rostami, an Iranian Olympic weightlifter who represented Iran at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan Khomeini appreciated skills and capabilities of the 25-year-old Iranian athlete who grabbed gold in the men's 85-kilogram category with a world record after lifting a total of 396 kilograms.

Rostami lifted 179 and 217 kilograms in snatch and in clean and jerk respectively.

“It’s nearly a month that I have been training intensely for Olympic Games. I know my body much better than anyone else, and have been training both personally and as a member of Iran’s national team for years… I have gained a lot of experience over the past years,” Rostami had said back in February

The Iranian athlete had also finished second in the 85-kilogram class both in the London 2012 Olympic Games and in the 2015 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Weightlifting Championships in Houston, the United States.

It is noteworthy that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic used to advise sportsmen to display their professional capabilities at international events to bring fame to Islam and the nation.

Imam also advised athletes to decorate them with divine values and virtues and become very useful citizens for the society.

Iran made significant progress in several fields including, sports following the victory of Islamic Revolution under the wise leadership of Imam Khomeini.
