Millions marking 28th anniversary of Imam Khomeini's passing

Millions of Iranians are marking the 28th passing away anniversary of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.

Millions of Iranians are marking the anniversary of the eternal departure of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, 28 years ago.

The anniversary of his passing falls on Sunday this year.  

Thousands from across Iran continue to descend on his mausoleum south of the Iranian capital Tehran to attend commemoration ceremonies.  

Born in 1902, Seyyed Rouhollah Moussavi Khomeini, better known as Imam Khomeini revived religious and spiritual values at a sensitive juncture of history when the world had been plunged into social and moral decline

Imam grew to become the iconic leader of the Iranian nation’s struggle in the 1970s against the centuries-old monarchical tyranny.

He led the Islamic Revolution to victory in 1979 when the world powers had divided the world to two main Eastern and Western Blocs.

Imam Khomeini and his followers confronted colonial policies and changed the balance of power in the interest of the world oppressed nations.

Imam Khomeini, the leader of the world’s freedom seekers, passed away on June 03, 1989
