Imam Khomeini defined US-led sanctions, embargoes as divine gift

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic in a series of historic messages described the sanctions and embargoes imposed by the United States against Iran as a divine gift.

Imam used to say that the US-led sanctions have led the Iranian nation to move forward and pave the way of progress in various arenas. Imam believed the Iranian intellectuals, statement, officials, relevant authorities and scientists have resorted to their initiatives in order to stand on their feet and confront such brutal embargoes.

According to Imam, the history of Islam is full of examples of resistance against injustices and blockades. In early days of Islam, the entire family of the holy prophet of Islam was besieged by the disbelievers. The holy prophet, his family and followers had resisted and kept spreading divine message at sensitive juncture of history. They brought the humanity out of darkness and guided them towards divine and humane values.

Imam believed that sanctions and embargoes against Iran by the imperial powers would lead the nation towards a self-sufficiency, growth and progress.

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order, re-imposing a first round of sanctions on Iran, which had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The second phase of US sanctions will come into effect in November targeting Iran’s oil industry, among others.

The move came three months after Washington’s withdrawal from the JCPOA despite objections from other parties to the accord – France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China – and the international community.
