Imam Khomeini shrine becoming architectural endeavors of Islamic Republic, beacon of spiritual and academic activities

The holy mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, is spiritual center, guiding site and one the grandest architectural endeavors of the Islamic Republic.

Built on an enormous scale at the giant Behesht-e Zahra cemetery – the Holy Shrine also contains the tombs of Imam Khomeini's wife, known as the holy lady of Iran, Imam’s late son Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini  and several other important political and religious figures.

 In 2017, former president Akbar Rafsanjani was also buried there.

The holy shrine, easily reached via metro, has become center of special attention by pilgrims and tourists from across Iran and around the globe.

Construction of the complex, covering 20 sq km, began in 1989, but parts of it are yet to be completed.  

Inside the vast main hall, men and women approach respectfully from different sides.

In recent years, the holy mausoleum has become a center for academic activities.

Several Quranic sessions, religious and spiritual gatherings are regularly organized at the holy mausoleum by people from various walks of life.

A library has also been built and equipped with religious and academic books and is being expanded by the passage of time.

On the surroundings of the holy shrine, a college and research center for specialized studies regarding the history of Islamic Revolution is located and is frequented by experts from across various parts of the world to conduct research and present papers and articles.

The college has produced thousands of thesis, articles and research papers over the past years. 

High level classes are being held for PhD levels and its graduates have presented precious works regarding Imam’s ideals and the history of Islamic Revolution.   

The scene was very different in 1989 at the holy site where Imam Khomeini's  funeral, was attended by a crowd of 10 million mourners.

thousands of mourners visit the shrine on special dates of significance on the Islamic calendar and the early June which coincides with the passing anniversary of the Imam. 

Imam Khomeini, the contemporary religious and spiritual leader of the Muslim world has had well command over a number of fields including philosophy, mysticism, Quranic and Hadith sciences, Jurisprudence, and poetry and literature. His ideals are becoming increasing popular among young generation and followers of divine religions.

It is worthy to mention that the holy site has become a beacon of social, religious and spiritual activities in recent years.

A large number of tourists, intellectuals, officials, scholars and pilgrims visit the holy mausoleums from across Iran and various parts of the world each year. 

It is worthy to mention that Imam Khomeini’s holy shrine has become beacon of religious, spiritual and social gatherings and events in recent years. 

The Islamic Revolution under the wise leadership of Imam Khomeini put Iran on track of progress, and changed the balance of power in the interests of the entire Muslim world and the oppressed nations across the globe. 

It is worth to mention that Imam’s works, messages and speeches continue to inspire the Muslim ummah and all followers of divine religions, and truth –seekers.

Imam Khomeini established an Islamic-democratic system following the emergence of the Islamic revolution under his wise leadership in 1979.

Imam stood to revive the rights of oppressed and Muslim nations at very sensitive juncture of the history, when the world was divided into two eastern and Western blocs.
