Imam Khomeinithe founder of the Islamic Republic announced the Unity Week in order to bridge differences among Muslim community and strengthen solidarity among them.

The great Imam designated the period of the auspicious birthday of the Holy Prophet celebrations from the 12th to 17th of Rabi ul-Awwal as the Islamic Unity Week. This initiative step and dynamic announcement aimed to bring all Muslims from various schools of thought on the common platform of Islamic unity.

This solid step bridged the divisions and used it as an opportunity to unite the ranks of Muslims.

The great leader of the Muslim world foresight helped bridge the gap of five days between the two dates believed to be the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This year week is being marked amid a backdrop of a new Islamic awakening inspired by Imam Khomeini's thought and the stream of change sweeping across Muslim world and among the oppressed nations across the globe.  

The unity among Muslims is the best method to counter the plots and conspiracies by colonial powers.

In view of the threats posed by enemies, it is essential for the Islamic world to close ranks and coordinate efforts to counter aggressive powers.

The Islamic Republic’s quest for knowledge, the respect for others' rights and fostering of humanitarian values introduced true and dynamic face of Islam. 

Imam's Revolution brought betterment of human society and emerged as a beacon of light for mankind.

The great Imam made Muslims realize that they ought to follow the holy prophet’s perfect path by establishing unity and solidarity among them. In this way the Muslims will become immune from the onslaughts of the hostile powers.

Imam Khomeini also made the Muslims learn to guard against divisive tendencies since the imperialists and colonial powers have made no secret of their plans to divide and rule.

According to Imam, Muslims' failure to check the evil ambitions of the hostile powers and the devilish plots of our avowed foes has been due to lack of unity. 

Imam also maintained that true Muslim states have to be independent and independence is not possible unless masses strive for self-sufficiency, solidarity and security. 

Undoubtedly, by the genuine and authentic unity Muslims will attain progress in political, social, cultural, technological, economic and industrial fields.

Imam believed that focus on building inter-Muslim solidarity is essential to pursue cultural and intellectual methods to help bridge the differences of the past centuries.

This purpose can be achieved through expert gathering in different fields with sincere efforts to study and remove the root cause of differences among Muslims.

Iran has shown the way by holding and organizing annual international Islamic unity conferences and summits.
The Islamic Republic’s World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought extends its warm felicitations to Muslims worldwide on the occasion of the auspicious birthday of the holy prophet and the Islamic Unity Week each year.

The summits come up with practical solutions for attaining Islamic Unity. Hundreds of Shia and Sunni attend annual international summits in Iran.

Analysts believe that the idea of Imam has deep roots in the Quranic verses and genuine teachings of Islam.
