Imam Khomeini’s fatwa about Salman Rushdie was historical and great

Imam’s fatwa was great and historical, and it made a new wave throughout the Islamic world and showed he is sensitive about religion, sacred issues of a religion and the prophet.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security of the Iranian parliament, in an interview with Mehr news agency, at the anniversary of Imam historic verdict on Salman Rushdie, said: “The Satanic Verses which was written by an apostate is a circle of chain actions against the sacred issues of Muslims for making doubts and fighting against Islam and its prophets.”

Boroujerdi continued: “Imam’s fatwa was great and historical, and it made a new wave throughout the Islamic world and showed he is sensitive about religion, sacred issues of a religion and the prophet. This fatwa made a huge anxiety among the imperialists and not only this cruel person but a lot of other persons where counted in this fatwa such as the translators and publishers of that book were wanted by the public opinion and the Muslims.”

This MP said: “For example “Aziz Nesin” who had translated this book to Turkish was hated by the people of Turkey and this fear prevented him from other works like that. One the goals of Islam’s enemies was to normalize such insults. Imam’s reaction prevented from other similar movements.”

At the end he added: “Imam had issued his fatwa based on Islamic law and it wasn’t his own opinion. This verdict was a sentence of Quran which in any similar insult to the prophet of Islam the sentence will be the same.”
