World must work to target terrorism at roots

Iran’s foreign minister has suggested that the world must now work to target terrorism at the roots.

Mohammad Javad Zarifin a post on his Twitter page has praised the Syria-wide ceasefire deal as a “major achievement” on the diplomatic front.

“Ceasefire in Syria is a major achievement. Let’s build on it by tackling the roots of extremist terror,” said the top Iranian diplomat.

The remarks came after the Syrian army announced a nationwide ceasefire. The countrywide ceasefire came one week after the Syrian army announced full control over Aleppo.

The deal does not apply to the Takfiri Daesh and Fateh al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra Front) terror groups as well as their affiliates.

The developments come as Tehran, Ankara and Moscow have agreed to hold constant consultations in preparation for the upcoming peace talks about Syria in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Zarif has also recently elaborated on his thoughts about ways of tackling terrorism and extremism in an essay titled How to Handle the Enabling Conditions for Extremism and Terrorism.

the top Iranian diplomat said In the article that the blame game between the West and the East does nothing to eradicate the “twin problems of terrorism and extremism.”

“It is easy for us in West Asia to blame the West as the ultimate culprit in our problems…Simultaneously, it has been even more convenient for the West to blame us – Muslims in the West Asia region – irrespective of our divergence, disagreements and even disputes and conflicts,” Zarif said.

The Iranian foreign minister has also called for “genuine cooperation” among world countries to confront the “cancerous phenomena.”

It is worthy to mention that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic through his historic messages and speeches frequently stressed the need to curb the phenomenon of terrorism and extremism, and opposed all forms of violence.

Following the footsteps of the late founder of the Islamic Revolution, senior Iranian officials have offered their assistance to confront terrorist groups which are currently wreaking havoc in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere.
